Young Musicians Shine at Shanghai Band Fest
On October 18, our Pudong campus came alive with music as 80 middle school students from SAS Pudong, SAS Puxi, and Concordia gathered for the Shanghai Middle School Band Festival. This one-day event gave young musicians a chance to rehearse and perform as a group, creating a fun and collaborative atmosphere.
Led by band directors Mr. Derek Cour (SAS Pudong), Mr. Harout Boyajian (SAS Puxi), and Mr. Mike Shirk (Concordia), the festival featured a diverse program with each director taking turns conducting. After months of preparation, students not only sharpened their musical skills but also had the chance to experience working with different conductors, which enhanced their growth as ensemble musicians.
Ms. Lauren Borodenko, Director of Performing Arts on Pudong campus shared, “This type of music festival experience allows students to come together to create music and discover that their collective efforts transcend individual talent. This collaboration not only fosters a profound sense of community spirit in music making but also cultivates their growth as sensitive ensemble musicians.”
The day was a celebration of music, friendship, and learning. We're proud to have hosted this event. At SAS, we are happy to open our amazing stages to bring together passionate young musicians from across Shanghai!
