Career Immersion: Inside the Magic of Shanghai Disneyland Hotel
Shanghai American School high school students recently had an unforgettable experience with a behind-the-scenes day at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel. Through the SAS Career Immersion program, this exclusive event opened their eyes to the ins and outs of the hotel industry and gave them a rare chance to dive into the world of hospitality management.
The day kicked off with an engaging session where students learned about the complexities of running a world-class hotel. They soon found themselves immersed in an eye-opening experience, discovering how attention to detail elevates the guest's experience.
One of the more interactive aspects of the visit was an opportunity to work alongside the housekeeping team, where students learned about the skill and precision involved in maintaining hotel rooms to the highest standards. As senior Jon C. from Pudong put it, “Going behind-the-scenes really made me realize the importance of the invisible efforts that enhances a guest’s experience at hotels.”
The event concluded with a career discussion with the hotel’s General Manager, who shared her personal journey in the hospitality industry, including the challenges and lessons that shaped her career. Students had the chance to ask questions and gain advice on pursuing careers in hospitality, leaving them feeling inspired and motivated. Rebecca C., a freshman from Puxi, noted a key takeaway: “I learned how important it is to be observant and flexible in the hotel industry.”
This hands-on experience not only deepened the students’ understanding of the hotel industry but also highlighted the importance of soft skills and adaptability. By the end of the day, it was clear that the students had gained more than just a glimpse into the world of hospitality—they had developed a deeper appreciation for the hard work and attention to detail that make exceptional guest experiences possible.
